![]() Message from the Chair As a lifetime resident of the Redding region, I have always enjoyed the natural resources, rivers, and mountains. But as I grew older I realized the true wealth of our region was found in the sense of community among residents - their character, and their ability to work together to make Redding a great place to live. Leadership Redding works to focus on that sense of community and continue to build upon it. Long time residents and newer transplants have an opportunity to learn about the region, build new relationships, exchange ideas, and get involved through their participation in the program. Many of the great things about Redding are a result of the determination of Leadership Redding graduates.Leadership Redding is a program of the Shasta Regional Community Foundation. The training consists of 10 issue-oriented days over a 9 month period. The purpose of Leadership Redding is to transform a highly motivated group of individuals into a network of leaders with knowledge and a commitment that benefits the entire Redding region. Leadership Redding provides a big picture of the major issues facing the Redding region. The curriculum focuses on key topics such as our history, social issues, growth, environment, justice, and government. Instructional days feature leading experts and key community leaders who are active in the issue at hand. My experience with Leadership Redding resulted in establishing several close personal and professional relationships. As graduation arrived, I was afraid I would lose those relationships that I had developed through the year. Fortunately, there are programs available that allowed us to continue working together. Recent graduates can apply for positions on a grants panel for the Shasta Regional Community Foundation. Also, the Steering Committee consists of 25 graduates who work to keep the program fresh. Additionally, a group of Alumni meets regularly to discuss community projects and have social activities that educate and improve the Redding region. Along with the Foundation, this program relies heavily on the participation of local sponsors who donate facilities, refreshments, and fund many of the activities participants enjoy. It is another example of this community working together to make it a great place to live. If you are interested in applying for Leadership Redding, feel free to ask an alumnus or current class member about their experience. For me, it was life changing!
